YEE HAW

This picture is from a night at the club, we were doing a western theme for some reason. I thought it was funny so I posted it. HA! The first cake was delicious, but too dense. More like a pound cake or short cake. So I've hunted down a couple more recipes. I think as I get free time over the next week or so I'll mix em and bake em and see what he thinks. lol. Baking for Christmas my hand mixer burned out. So I'm stuck mixing everything by hand. Which isn't unbearable, sometimes its a good way to release some tension. Someday I intend to get a stand mixer. I think they last longer and be even easier on my hands. Abby's dress is coming right along and I think this weekend should see it mostly done. And so far I'm current with all my homework!

Trapped & Creative

The weather is nasty. So I baked. :) I like the test cakes I made. Jason came and took one which I iced to work to see what people think, and of course to have some himself. Knowing that he planned to do this and having some chocolate chips on the shelf I made a batch of them for him to take to work as well. Those crazy folks are feeding Springfield, someone aught to feed them too. lol. Anyway, about the cakes. They baked up beautifully and I have two to freeze. In one week I'll pull one then in two or more weeks I'll pull the other. I have a feeling that this cake is a tad sweeter than most are used to, but I like the scratch vs. out of a box. While all that's going on I've also been working on some put off artsy projects as well. Making a box out of an old book and doing some collage on another box. Now I'm wanting to get down to some art journaling. But first I've just remembered there is some reading I could do for school. Oh, yeah, I've been memorizing my Mozart as well. Just doing a bit then going off to bake or glue something, then coming back later and doing more. It feels good to be productive. Some snow days in the past I've spent reading or knitting while watching films.....this day may end that way!

Baby, it be COLD

Why is it that just having frozen junk from the sky makes the temp. seem lower? It's been colder than this. Just a couple weeks back it was 5 most of the day. Who knows. Just thought I'd let everyone know that I'm safe and since all the dress stuff is at Jason's I won't be using this free evening to sew. But I can bake the test run of wedding cake! YUM! LOL

This is the dress. Not done obviously, still need the grommets and hem and some other detail stuff.
This is a sleeve. I loved wearing this sleeve! The fabric does such beautiful things in the light.
This is the prototype. The one Jason wore to make me laugh. I'm really glad I made this dress first, patternless off shoulder is a bit over my head. lol
AND...... We have a house!!!! I'm so excited I could bust! I hope the next few weeks FLY by. :)

The Hunt

This afternoon Jason took me house hunting. We saw about 20-30 houses for rent in the neighborhoods we checked. 3 or 4 of them met his requirements, and we got to meet one landlord and have a look inside a nice three-bedroom house. But that was just the first one. As nice as it would be to have this figured out now, it will be nicer to have just what we want. So we told him we had a couple more to look at before we could say for sure. Since I have Monday off from school I'm going to be working on the dress basically until it's done. The only thing I'm willing to leave off is the hem and the fine work. Last night we met with some friends and had a birthday dinner for Jason. It was good to see everyone again and catch up. Everyone at the table will be in the wedding! I think that's neat. I'm also thrilled that Jason's family have shared so much with us! His grandparents are letting us use their cake topper, and both of their daughters used it for their weddings too. And his folks got out their bride and groom glasses and feather pen, and Linda is letting Jason use some of the leftover fabric from her own wedding dress. It's perfect because her dress was yellow and the grooms color is yellow! To top it all off though, his Papa gave him his wedding ring. We were both blown away. What a treasure. It's easy for me to see how he came to be the wonderful man he is when we visit his family. Like I told my Aunt Carol not too long ago, "Sometimes family is everything."

And so the Semester Begins

Jason and I had a lovely time visiting his family last week! We drove up after he got off work wed. night and stayed til sat. evening. It was nice to have Christmas with his family and then celebrate three January birthdays! This week is my first back at school. I can tell this will be a homework intensive semester, but I'm looking forward to it as most of the work is music related. I have most of my non-music classes out of the way now! YIPPEE! The dresses are no further than they were a week ago. Jason said he could tell I was burnt out by the time we left for the trip, so I'm especially glad we had that break. But now I'm ready to get back to it! I want to have him help me take pictures of what I have done so far...maybe Saturday will be a good day for that. He's been house hunting all week. I'm glad he wants to take charge and do those kinds of things, he has such a great attitude and can be more business like than I can. This weekend we get to celebrate his birthday. I'm sure we'll have lots of fun. OK, still no pictures. Hopefully I can make it up by having several of the dresses this weekend.

Happy 2-0-0-9

Happy New Year! Three days late. LOL. All this warm weather had got my allergies doing double time. What happened to "seasonal"? Well, I've managed to get a lot done. My dress is cut out, mostly. I still need to cut out the lining and then of course sew it all together. Ha. But I'm trying to help with the pack up and move of the club. I say trying because there are a lot of things which only Heath or Em or Jason or Kevin can do. Still, I'm good for heaving lifting, which is most of what we'll be doing today. There are a lot of mixed feelings going around. It's sad and frustrating to have anything fail to work out, but its also a relief to get to put it to rest and try to gain some closer and move on to the next thing. Hopefully taking lessons learned along with you. So I suppose just being moral support sometimes is OK too. :) Three posts without pictures. I'll have to rectify that soon.
